“The best architects have a unique way of looking at the world, analyzing data and approaching problems,” suggests Richey. “Over the course of my career, I’ve tried to keep track of lessons learned and methods we used to help solve each client’s challenge.” Richey needs no reminder on the importance of discipline, a lesson he learned as a varsity track and field athlete while earning his degree in architecture at Iowa State University. “Balancing athletics, undergraduate study and a part-time job was the foundation of my work ethic and time management capabilities,” he says. These days, high-performance cars are a motivator. He keeps a few die-cast models on his desk, where “I can look down at them after a long meeting or call and think about a spirited drive,” he explains. “It gives me a turbo boost to move on to the next task.”
