“The decisions we make and the designs we engineer form the world around our friends, family and peers,” points out Nathan, reflecting on his role as a landscape architect and site designer. “People live their lives in the spaces and environments we create—the land we shape, the paths we sculpt—which have a profound impact on quality of living.” Nathan describes himself as a “tinkerer, DIYer and problem solver” and feels lucky to have found a profession that demands an open mind, creative thinking and the ability to adapt to emerging technologies to “work the problem.” He finds similar satisfaction in the kitchen. “Recipes are a guide, but I’m all about ad-libbing,” he divulges. “I approach cooking and landscape architecture the same way: test and try, searching for the right mix of ingredients for the perfect solution.”
