The RMR Group, a leading alternative asset management firm, engaged SmithGroup on the repositioning of 1415 W. Diehl Road in Naperville, IL from a corporate headquarter building to a multi-tenant property. SmithGroup explored economical options to make the asset competitive with other multi-tenant buildings in the market.
The 35,000-square-foot lobby became the focal point of the project and the area that would create maximum impact. To expose the full volume of the two-story space, the team removed a dated security desk and divider walls and replaced it with a contemporary reception area with a prominent light fixture of interlocking geometric shapes.
Pronounced use of color, texture, lighting and furnishings drove much of design transformation. Instead of divider walls, freestanding bookcases and reutilized planter beds as well as tones of yellow, purple and blue create zones that bring a human scale to the large space.
Great emphasis was placed on rebranding the building to "Hub 1415," giving the building a prominent new identity to match the colorful and bold interiors.
