Joyce Polhamus

As Senior Housing Market Leader, Joyce is responsible for introducing “Longevity Living” as the next generation of best practices in senior living design to clients and practitioners across the firm.  "My passion has always been senior living environments, and the creative and inspiring ways architecture can affect a resident’s wellbeing," she says.  She launched the Senior Living Studio at SmithGroup and developed a portfolio of projects that continues to grow today.  Joyce has garnished industry recognition through presenting at national conferences, introducing new concepts in senior housing and innovative solutions on both national and international projects. She has won numerous design awards and served as chair of the AIA’s National Design for Aging Knowledge Community, promoting the annual awards program, serving as a resource for all senior living architects, and elevating senior living quality across the county.  Joyce was elevated to the AIA College of Fellows for introducing creative design solutions and successful national advocacy programs.  "My passion now is promoting design to create more beautiful, comfortable, healthy and joyful lifestyles for older adults."
