Jim Shepherd Named to The Association for Preservation Technology College of Fellows

SmithGroup is proud to announce that our national Director of Historic Preservation, Jim Shepherd, has been named to The Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) College of Fellows. APT fellowship recognizes a member’s professional contributions to advancing the field of historic preservation and service to the APT community.

Since joining SmithGroup in 2019, Jim has grown the firm’s reputation for preservation services, leading this specialty across our 19 offices, assisting clients with planning, research and analysis of historic structures for preservation, restoration and modernization. He leads a growing team of preservation architects expanding our ability to offer clients and communities holistic integrated design services.

In addition to being an active member of the Association of Preservation Technology, having previously served at both the international and chapter levels as a Board Member, Treasurer, and founder of the APT Technical Committee on Documentation, Jim also serves on the Board of Directors for the DC Preservation League in Washington, DC and chairs the AIA HABS Coordinating Committee.

Jim was inducted into the College of Fellows during a ceremony at the 2024 APT-National Trust Joint Conference in Montreal, Canada, on November 15, 2024.
