John loves the complexity of colleges and universities. “They’re like small cities, where multiple systems overlap, presenting significant challenges but also tremendous opportunities. Each institution has its own story, history and path forward. We help make them more inclusive and flexible, while strengthening their vision for the future. Ultimately, we are creating environments for the next generation of ideas and research to flourish.” While not a planning project, an early career opportunity to work on the Arlington National Cemetery made a lasting impact on John. “The gravity of every design decision was profound,” he explains. “It made me realize the importance of ‘getting it right,’ because sites hold stories and memories for generations to come.” John is an avid football fan. His dream quiz show category? “I would absolutely dominate university mascots.”
