Andrew Broderick Joins SmithGroup as Cities Studio Leader

Andrew Broderick has joined SmithGroup as the Urban Planning & Development Studio Leader for the firm’s Cities market. Broderick is a highly accomplished urban planner and designer who has led transformational city-building projects across the U.S. over his 19-year career, most recently serving as Associate Principal for Urban Design at Perkins & Will. He will be based in the firm’s Chicago office, providing insight for Cities projects regionally and nationally.

With a background in architecture as well as planning, Broderick focuses on complex urban planning and development challenges, helping clients and communities translate ambitious visions into strategies for investment, implementation, resilience and long-term impact. His comprehensive skill sets allow him to lead projects across multiple scales and markets, ranging from downtowns and neighborhoods to districts, corridors, and large-scale developments.

Broderick’s work includes urban district and corridor plans in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Oklahoma City and Baton Rouge, the award-winning Greater Corktown Neighborhood Framework Plan in Detroit, innovation district development for Wake Forest Innovation Quarter, uCity in Philadelphia and Discovery Partners Institute in Chicago, and campus plans for Florida State University, the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin.

Broderick graduated with a Bachelor’s in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and holds a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan. He is a certified urban planner and a member of the Urban Land Institute. He is also an executive board member of the Chicago Central Area Committee, serving as chair of the Burnham Council to co-lead the organization’s strategic planning and action efforts.
