Andy gets right to the point describing his role as Fire Protection Discipline Lead: “My work makes the world a safer place,” he states. Being part of an integrated firm and having the full support of his team members makes it even more rewarding. “SmithGroup openly welcomes my involvement,” says Andy. “By ensuring that our designs consider the full impact of code requirements from the outset, we can create buildings that elicit pride from their occupants along with a feeling of safety and security.” Andy once considered becoming a wildland firefighter, drawn to its physical demands and constant variety. These days, he channels that adventurous spirit into outdoor sports like climbing, mountain biking and snowboarding. “I have always enjoyed challenging myself to do things outside my comfort zone,” Andy remarks, adding that in high school, he joined both the football team and the show choir. “Having an open mind to new perspectives and experiences really formed me as a person.”
