Restoration of the estate built by Clara and Henry Ford has been ongoing for nearly a decade. Jim Shepherd will share the ongoing work to the estate's Rouge River-driven powerhouse and the greenhouse.

FS8 | Detroit’s Signature Towers: Guardian, Book and Fisher 
Jerry Misiolek and Mark Piotrowski 
The Guardian Building, a National Historic Landmark and home to SmithGroup’s Detroit office, was designed by Wirt Rowland and completed in 1929. Jerry Misiolek will share the restoration of the building’s iconic masonry façade as part of this three-building field session, co-chaired by Mark Piotrowski and Rebecca Savage of Detroit’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board.

CS3.3 | Preservation of Coastal Forts and Monuments 
Jim Shepherd and Susan Pommerer 
As part of a triple topic session about coastal forts and monuments, Jim Shepherd and Susan Pommerer will present the ongoing preservation and restoration efforts of the Dorchester Heights Monument, an iconic National Historic Landmark in Boston, as well as the planning efforts for protecting and preserving Fort Warren, a National Historic Landmark on George’s Island in Boston Harbor.

Symposium | Industrial Sites, Embodied Carbon and Adaptive Reuse 
Ryan Smith, Paul Urbanek and Mark Piotrowski  
SmithGroup will lead informal tours of the exterior of the Cranbrook Art Museum as a complement to the symposium at the Cranbrook Science Museum, focusing on improvements to the exterior enclosure sensitive to the historic facade of the renowned art museum.
