FS8 | Detroit’s Signature Towers: Guardian, Book and Fisher

The Guardian Building, a National Historic Landmark and home to SmithGroup’s Detroit office, was designed by Wirt Rowland and completed in 1929. Jerry Misiolek will share the restoration of the building’s iconic masonry façade as part of this three-building field session, co-chaired by Mark Piotrowski and Rebecca Savage of Detroit’s Historic Preservation Advisory Board.

As part of a triple topic session about coastal forts and monuments, Jim Shepherd and Susan Pommerer will present the ongoing preservation and restoration efforts of the Dorchester Heights Monument, an iconic National Historic Landmark in Boston, as well as the planning efforts for protecting and preserving Fort Warren, a National Historic Landmark on George’s Island in Boston Harbor.
