Tory says large architecture projects present unique challenges to financial accounting—and that’s right up her lane. “I love the challenge of how best to budget and plan out the more complex projects,” she remarks. “Their complexity gives me the opportunity to develop new financial tracking methods and ways to analyze project performance, which can be shared across projects.” Those financial insights have led to a few human ones, too. Because people interpret information differently, Tory says she tries to discern what kind of explanation or graphic will help non-financial professionals see trends and outcomes to help in their decision making. Tory nearly pursued becoming a librarian, drawn to the idea of “organizing, tracking and sharing my love of books in places that exist only to build community and spread knowledge.” On weekends, she might be building and restoring furniture or “in a cozy chair with a good book and a glass of wine.”
