As the firm’s Director of Civil Engineering, Dave combines a disciplined engineering mindset with a collaborative, pragmatic approach to meeting the diverse needs of his clients. “In my 30+ years in this industry, I’ve learned that being a good engineer requires more than technical skills – it also requires empathy, pragmatism, and the ability to recognize the unique perspectives of others.” While he has worked on various types of projects throughout his career, multi-disciplinary water resources-based projects are his favorite. “I enjoy waterfront projects as they require solving complex technical solutions while addressing the interests for a mix of residents, regulators, property owners, and politicians.” When not working on client projects, Dave enjoys mentoring the next generation of designers and engineers. “Over the past few years, I’ve really enjoyed mentoring future civil engineers through participation in the UW-Madison capstone program and lecturing landscape architecture in stormwater management processes and planning.” Beyond the world of engineering, he has a deep-rooted passion for music. “When I was a kid, every time I’d get my allowance, I’d go to the record store and buy a 45 RPM. I’ve never lost the thrill of hearing something new and watching live music.”
