Dayton Schroeter Writes for New Book: Museums and Mass Violence
SmithGroup design director Dayton Schroeter has contributed a chapter to the newly published Museums and Mass Violence, edited by Paul Morrow, Amy Sodaro and Leora Kahn. The book explores how museums around the world have addressed mass violence and human rights abuses.
Schroeter's essay, entitled "Future Foundations: Designing Around Sites of Trauma and Resilience," examines the designer's role in interpreting complex and difficult histories in the design process. He analyzes, through the lens of several case studies in the United States, how design can transcend the performative to become a catalyst for awareness, accountability and community action.
