SmithGroup Hires Carrie Perrone to Lead Phoenix Higher Education Studio
SmithGroup, one of the nation’s leading integrated design firms, has hired Carrie Perrone as Higher Education Studio Leader in its Phoenix office. The move marks Perrone’s return to SmithGroup, where she previously served as a Principal and Education Strategist with a focus on planning and designing learning environments. In her new role, Perrone will lead a team of Higher Education experts and partner with institutions throughout the Southwest to create vital places for inspired learning.
A registered architect with over 20 years of experience, including 12 years at SmithGroup, Perrone delves into higher education clients’ processes and institutional goals, arriving at a shared vision for how the built environment can support students. She has led complex projects for institutions like the University of Arizona, Arizona State University and Northern Arizona University, as well as the development of engaged learning typologies.
“Carrie’s work pushes the boundaries of the typical to champion engaging, student-centered environments,” said Chris Purdy, Higher Education Practice Director at SmithGroup. “From designing immersive learning spaces for the Integrated Education Building at Gateway Community College to most recently leading Arizona State University's New Academic Building in Tempe, she consistently leads her clients through a collaborative process that directly responds to the specific priorities of their institutions.”
“We could not be more thrilled to welcome Carrie back to our Phoenix team,” said Brad Woodman, director of SmithGroup’s Phoenix and Denver offices. “Her comprehensive understanding of the local, regional and national Higher Education markets makes her an ideal leader to partner with clients in Arizona and beyond.”
Perrone will collaborate with multidisciplinary experts locally and across the firm’s Higher Education, Campus Planning and Campus Strategy & Analytics teams. From campus plan to classroom, SmithGroup's integrated expertise creates places that transform the institution and elevate the individual in higher education.
Perrone graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Arizona. She is a licensed architect, a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a LEED AP certified professional.
