Maria Martinico Hired to Lead SmithGroup’s New Workplace Studio
Los Angeles-based Workplace Studio will expand quality, depth of workplace design expertise in Central and Southern California
SmithGroup, one of the nation's largest integrated design firms, has hired Maria Martinico, CID, IIDA, LEED AP, as a principal and leader of its new Los Angeles-based Workplace studio. She will be responsible for expanding the company’s portfolio of workplace interiors, asset repositioning, hospitality, corporate headquarters, and ground-up core and shell projects from San Diego to San Luis Obispo.
Martinico possesses nearly 30 years of experience in the planning, design, implementation and management of a range of commercial project types. She comes to SmithGroup from Gensler, where she spent 18 years and most recently served as director of Workplace at its San Diego office. Her career includes work for many notable organizations, such as Disney, Toyota, Edwards LifeSciences, Broadcom, Experian, Nationstar, John Deere, and Mission Federal Credit Union, among others.

Martinico earned a Bachelor of Science in interior design from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and graduated from Chapman University with a Master’s of Business Administration. She is a certified interior designer in California and an active member of industry leading organizations, including the International Interior Design Association, the U.S. Green Building Council, and CoreNet Global, where she serves on its Board of Directors.
